Blackburn with Darwen Council's Accessibility Strategy

This document is the Council's Accessibility Strategy that relates to schools.  This is a requirement under the Equality Act 2010 and it aims to prevent disability discrimination in education.

The legislation is designed to help Local Authorities and schools improve access for disabled pupils in a planned way, over a period of time.  This includes improving access to:

  • The curriculum.
  • The physical environment.
  • Written information and information provided in alternative formats.

This Accessibility Strategy has been produced by members of the Council’s Access Initiative Group. The remit of this group is to ensure that children and young people with disabilities can access education and maximise their potential. The purpose of this strategy is to ensure that accessibility to the curriculum, the physical environment and information for disabled pupils is central to service delivery and supports school accessibility planning.
