Inherited Genetic Disorders Project
Project to assist families in Blackburn and Darwen who have children/relatives with complex or special needs arising from genetic conditions passed on by both parents.
Providing support and signposting to appropriate services including genetic counselling to enable families to make informed decisions for their futures. Assistance is available if:
- Your child has a number of health problems and regularly visits the hospital.
- Your child has a long-term condition or attends a special needs school requiring a lot of support.
- If you worry about having more children who might be affected.

Families who are closely related before marriage.
Discussions can be in Urdu or Punjabi depending on preference of family.
Governments 100 000 Genome Project could help and treat certain genetic conditions which have been difficult to diagnose in the past. This is a new initiative and the Genetics Outreach Worker will be involved with families who will take part in the research from the Blackburn and Darwen area.
