Parenting Programmes run by BwD Children's Services

Blackburn with Darwen's Children's Services run a variety of parenting programmes.

Below is a list of the programmes that are currently available to parents within Blackburn with Darwen.

They are usually held in one of the Children's Centres or in a local community venue or school.

If you are interested in any of these programmes or feel that you or people you know would benefit from attending a different programme that is not listed here ...

·       Speak to a member of the Geographical Team or another member of staff at your local Children's Centre.

·       Speak to your Health Visitor.

HENRY

(Health, exercise, nutrition for the really young)

 

HENRY approach focuses on both ‘message’ and ‘messenger’ to create the conditions for change and to support families to adopt healthier lifestyles. This approach integrates evidence-based behaviour change models, including the Family Partnership Model, motivational interviewing and solution-focused support with information about a healthy start (nutrition, activity, etc) that is consistent with national guidance. Crèche provided. It runs for eight weeks.

Healthy Relationship Programme

 

Whether you are together or co-parenting, we realise that conflict is a natural part of a relationship.

But, when that conflict becomes more intense and is not resolved this can and will impact on children, young people and the whole family.

Join one of the free seven week courses now at your local children’s centre and we’ll help you work on everything from communicating effectively to problem solving.

Ready Steady Nursery

 

 

Play and learn group to support children to become nursery  ready

Chatter Chums

 

A language programme to encourage and develop children’s speaking, language and listening skills. This is a 6 week programme.

Baby Massage

 

A loving way to bond with your baby in a relaxed environment using a combination of Indian and Swedish massage, together with reflexology.  Targeted. This is a 5 week programme.

Toy and Book Library

 

A free service in all the children centres for the community to borrow toys and resources.

 

IY Baby

 

An 8 week programme to enhance a baby’s emotional wellbeing and promote social and emotional development. The programme includes the babies with the parent group time.  Crèche provided

IY Toddler

 

An 8 week social, emotional, development evidence based programme that develop positive parent-child relationships. Crèche provided

Ready To Play

 

Group for 0-2 year olds. The aim is to help parents understand their child’s development, promote all areas of learning and develop close loving relationships see the Local Offer at local.offer@blackburn.gov.uk

Small Steps Big Achievements

Volunteering

 

The network of Children Centres offers Volunteering opportunities.

 

Breastfeeding Support

 

A social, friendly group for mums to meet up with their babies with trained staff available to offer support.

 

Ready Steady School

 

 

Play and learn group to support children to become school ready

Safer Parenting

 

A group for families designed to raise awareness of accidents and how to prevent them within the home .Runs for 3 weeks.

Free education for 2, 3 and 4 year olds
