Childminder - Amanda O'Mahoney (Mandy's Munchkins)

Local Offer

My name is Mandy and I am an Ofsted registered childminder, graded GOOD by Ofsted. I am based in Ewood and have worked in the care sector since 1985 since training as a Learning Disability Nurse. I have spent 5 years as a foster carer and about 3 years working in primary schools and nurseries as a SSA.

I hold a Level 3 Diploma in Working with Children and Young People and an advanced Diploma in SEND. I have also completed training on a number of relevant subjects including working with children with disabilities, paediatric first aid (renewed every 3 years), food hygiene, safeguarding children, schema and sign sharing amongst others. I regularly complete courses to keep up-to-date.

I welcome enquiries from parents with children aged from 3 months to 10 years and am fully inclusive, providing support for SEND children wherever possible.

I work within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum to help observe, assess and plan for each child's individual learning and development and aim to work closely with parents and local providers to ensure all the children in my care reach their full potential.

As a childminder I am able to offer a caring and homely environment to help your child feel safe and secure. I work closely with all parents during the settling period to make sure each child is supported and their individual needs are met.

Notes

There is parking on the drive, although this is quite steep. Alternatively, parking on the road outside the house is available but can get busy at school drop off and collection times as I am very close to The Redeemer School on Jack Walker Way.

The provision is all on one level downstairs with free flow between the rooms. There is a downstairs toilet, although this is not wheelchair accessible.

The garden area is accessed via the patio doors and there is a step down from the semi circle. Part of the garden is paved with Indian stone which is all one level apart from the lower area which has a small step down. In this area there is seating and tables as well as a tuff tray and basketball hoop and ride on cars. There is an artificial grassed area which is secured with a lovely colourful fence to ensure the childrens' safety. There is also an area off this which has a soft rubber covering to ensure the childrens' safety in case of falls.

The garden has many fun equipment to play, including a Jungle Gym wooden play play center which incorporates, swings, a slide, climbing wall and rope ladder. There are also a Little Tykes climbing frame with a integrated slide and a Feber caterpillar tunnel and numerous rockers.

My car is fitted with a Multimac car seat which enables 4 children to sit in the back seat, facilitating room for a wheelchair to be stored in the boot if needed.

I do not have any vacancies at the moment until September 2024. I am also planning to retire in September 2027.

Other notes

I can offer support to children with additional needs. An assessment will need to be completed before agreeing to the placement to ensure the individual needs can be met and that any additional support needs do not negatively impact on the support needs of existing children.

Description

Early identification of Special Educational Needs is very important to ensure the most effective support strategies are put in place. As the SENCO and child's key worker, I work closely with parents to identify a child's individual achievements and areas where they might need some more support. Through regular discussions we will be able to talk about any concerns either myself, or you as a parent, may have. I follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and make regular observations and assessments to track the child's learning journey and progress.  If I think a child in my care has a special educational need I will:

·        Keep observational notes

·        Share these with the child’s parents

·        Discuss what support is available

·        Keep all matters confidential

·        Work with parents / carers to decide what action to take next

It is my responsibility to ensure activities are planned which reflect each child's interests, schemas and ability.

I am able to administer long term and short term, prescribed medicine. I have completed medication training and will undertake further training on administering a particular medicine if necessary.
